No one ever expects to be involved in a serious motor vehicle accident, but knowing the right things to do when you are involved in a collision will serve to protect your legal rights.

bulletAlways stop your vehicle, as soon as it is safe to do so, no matter how slight the impact and no matter who is at fault.  Leaving the scene of an accident is a serious offense.
bulletDo whatever is safe and possible to alert oncoming traffic to any obstructions in the roadway and make sure to call the police.
bulletIf there are injuries to anyone involved, assist by contacting an ambulance.  Do not try to render medical assistance to any victim if you are not trained to do so.
bulletIt is important to exchange information with the other operators involved in the accident, including names, drivers' licenses, and insurance information.
bulletGet the names and addresses of passengers in the vehicles as well as those of anyone who may have witnessed the collision.
bulletYou should make no comments regarding the accident, admit nothing, and sign nothing.
bulletIf you have a camera available, and your injuries permit you to do so, take photos of the vehicles involved and the location.
bulletSeek emergency medical attention whenever necessary.
bulletNotify your insurance company of the accident as soon as practical.
